On the 21st March, I finally unpacked and unwrapped, my Mum's Dolls House. Its been sitting, waiting, in my Garage for the last seven years, to see the light of day. There was some minor damage, but nothing that cannot be fixed.
It was a bitter sweet moment for me, as my Mum never saw her house finished before she died.
The House is huge and opens front and back. It stands approximately 4ft High and is approximately 3ft wide, so it sits on its very own little cupboard, that is on castor's.
There are internal walls and rooms behind rooms, just like in a real house. Hence, why it opens front and back.
So it's up to me to finish it. Quite a daunting prospect to be honest. But I'm looking forward, to putting all the wonderful miniatures that Mum brought, back in their rightful place.
A wonderful project Debbie :-)
ReplyDeleteThat is an amazing dollhouse. So sad your mother never got to see it finished. Could you tell us more about it? I would love to read. When did she start working on it and at what stage was it when she passed? How wonderful that you had this passion for miniatures to share with your mother. She's with you in spirit and following along! My mother didn't share the hobby of miniatures with me but she absolutely loved to know and see every step of anything I was working on. She was totally amazed with everything! I miss her encouragement and enthusiasm. I'm glad to see you back to posting. Are you feeling better? You've had your share haven't you?

What an amazing house - it's huge! Looking forward to watching your progress and you could put some items that remind you of your Mum :)
ReplyDeleteIt is a great first project to do in your new studio.
ReplyDeleteA wonderful house and fantastic challenge for you ! Your mum will be proud of you after finishing.
ReplyDeleteI'm always amazed at what you guys in first world countries get up to. This house is gonna rock when its done. I take it that its in 1/12th scale? Not my preference but still very cool. I like 1/6th scale coz I make doll jewellery and I've found it the best to work in. http://daniel-s-world.blogspot.com/ 1/12 is a serious push for jewellery but isn't impossible. Let's see this house through. Exciting.
ReplyDeleteDebbie, It is going to be a gorgeous house when you are through! What a massive undertaking!!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great project, and very exciting. I have a feeling your mum will be watching from on high. Looking forward to seeing your progress. ( I wonder if my kids will have the opportunity to work on some of my unfinished projects?)

Hello Debbie,
ReplyDeleteWhat a magnificent dollhouse. It might be a lot of work, but I know you can make it something outstanding so don't despair!
Hugs,

A wonderful project because it's huge and you will have so many opportunities with it also because it's your mum's house.
