The Toll House...

About ten days ago, I was having a browse through Ebay, and I came across the Toll House Kit from the Dolls House Emporium. Well actually it was Miniaturia Weekend and I was feeling pretty sorry for myself, as I couldn't go.
Now DHE, don't make this kit any more. I know because I'd looked at the retreats, and this one is no longer available.
It was on a buy it now, for a really good price, so I brought it.
As you can see I opened the box and I've had a dry run at putting it together. I can however confirm, after speaking to Michelle, that the Roof is a bit of a bugger to put together. Michelle has turned her Toll House, into a Witches Cottage and it looks fantastic. Glenda, has also got this kit and has also had a dry run at putting hers together, she's even managed the roof..
I did want to turn this into my Witches Hat Shop, but I honestly don't think it's going to be big enough. It's Kat's fault, she keeps making all those beautiful hats and I keep buying them. Well a Witch, can never have enough Hats, or even Brooms, come to that.
I have got another idea, which also involves a Witch and Dragons, but I'm still not one hundred percent. Ben saw a picture of this on my Facebook and said and I quote " its a tower. therefore alchemist workshop, they always had a tower. Gives you an excuse to do whatever you like then and have mounted animals on the wall and you could get some huge cogs and make it look like a chandelier or whatever". Well I'm still not sure, so I've left it in front of the Log Burner in the Lounge, so that I can look at it and hopefully I will have a Eureka moment.
Now if it was yours what would you make it into?....

  1. Personally, I like Ben's idea a lot. Alchemists have so many unusual "things" surrounding them.

Of course, there are other Tower situations...like Astronomers or fairytale ones like Rapunzel. In time, it will speak to you...they always do. :-)

  3. What an interesting and unusual little building to put together! It will be fun to see what you do with it! Great find!

  4. I always see "Troll House" not "Toll House"! It looks a little too "cute" to me, to be an Alchemist's tower! But you could probably make it sort of Steampunk-Alchemist in a William Morris sort of Tower.....:)! Don't listen to me! You'll know what's right, just follow your own inklings!
Lucky find that, I just wish I had one of those kits!

  5. An alchemist would be very happy here!!
I've thought about dragon scenes, and they would have to have stone walls, if they're flaming a lot :)

I'm currently also just sitting looking at my tower, trying to decide where to place things so it all gets done in the right order.

  6. Debbie, it's too bad that it's not a couple of stories taller. It would make a wonderful Rapunzel tower. Oops, I see that Tabitha alread suggested that. Great Minds, and all that....LOL

  8. I have the toll house or troll house as I call it. I shall have to take some photos of it. It's an unfinished project but I love it. I have lots of Nikki goodies in it tee hee. My Witch lives in it and it's very cosy!
    I love Ben's idea cool!

  9. Our Meg has one like this and it's a fairy house.... but I agree with Ben, an Alchemist's workshop or a wizardly Astromers tower. We have just 'installed' a telescope in the roof of Wizards and Wands and looks quite good, I can send you a pic if you want to get an idea of how it would look.

Or... how about a troll gateway house to your Diagon Alley....

It's going to great whatever you make it into :0)

  10. Maybe a funny version of Romeo and Juliet ? As an old couple or maybe they could have a quarrel with Juliet throwing down some kitchen stuff ...

  11. If it was mine I'd go with the tower idea. The animals mounted on the wall sounds interesting!

  12. It really is a great kit, I love what Michelle has done with hers, I mean its quite small but look how much she has in it, I think the fuller the better! I think a wizard or dragon keeper tower. I am SO sad that the lovely Nicky isnt making her dragons anymore as imagine a whole tower with those beautiful creations inside! I think that style with dragons and wizardry and yes maybe a steampunk look too would be fab! Kate xx

  15. Such a cool kit, lucky you got it! Yeah hard to start until you know the theme and get excited about it. Potter's studio? Fortune teller studio?

  17. ohhhh, I love the Rapunzel idea! I do think it would make an interesting store too- like spooky candy store or accessories for your pet dragon or even a spell book store- I can't wait to see what you do with it!

  18. Well you already know what idea I prefer...Ben's! :o) You could go with having lots of lose bones and animal heads and skulls on the walls on in a cabinet too.

I'm glad it's not just me who hated putting the roof together! It was the worst thing about that kit. Make sure too that you have the same amount of roof edge around the top...it's also a useful guide to make sure the roof has been glued together correctly (the instructions do give a measurement for the amount of roof edge to be showing). Just trying to keep the roof still and not sliding about was the problem! lol)

  19. I am a sucker for these sort of bargains too. Well done
for not storing it under a bed!

What about an curio shop? I am sure you have lots of of interesting objects tucked away!

And Nicky has stopped making dragons! Oh no!

  20. I love this kit....one day I'll get my hands on one.

I love Bens idea as well....you could so so many things with that.

    me...I'd have a haunted flower shop I guess :-)

I do want to build a tower for a Rapunzel figure some time but it would be taller than this one...and I have to learn to sculpt properly to get the figures done.

Muy buena idea comprar esta torre. Parece que teneis varias ideas. Ya iré viendo cómo acaba todo esto.
Será lo que será, será precioso.
