Floor For Witch's Hat Shop..

Sorry, if over the next few day's I don't get over to every one's blog pages. But we have a French exchange student staying with us until Saturday. Harry is then going to France in June.
The young boy that is staying with us is only 12 and we've had a few tears before bedtime. He's rung his Mum & Dad and is fine now and tucked up in bed. I spoke to his Mum and she said he was a bit anxious. The Children have been travelling since 3pm on Sunday afternoon, they arrived in Wales today and were taken straight on a trip and we didn't pick them up till 8pm this evening. They must be totally exhausted. I think its all a bit to much for them. Added to that he doesn't speak a lot of English and my French is pretty rusty, but we are muddling through.
Anyway, back to Miniatures. Today I've been playing about with some graph paper, drawing out a design for the floor in the Witches Hat Shop. I want it to look like flagstones and this is the design I came up with. Just need to build it now...LOL

  2. Very nice Debbie! What color is it going to be? Good luck with the French. I am sure that it will be better after a good night's sleep. Hang in there!

  3. Hi Debbie! The floor is going to be magnificent!! How fun for the boys! I can imagine it must be overwhelming for him, to be so young and away from home, but you and your family are warm and loving and he'll feel right at home very quickly!

  4. Jean I do hope so on the student front. I really felt for him tonight. Hopefully after a good nights sleep he will be more relaxed tomorrow.

Casey, I fancy slate flagstones, polished with age, with a few cracks and small missing bits..

  5. Nice floor.Be sure that tomorrow your French kid will be happier. I still cherish my memories of changing homes. I went to Birmingham and it is still like being there. He will relax and be happy as a bird.

  6. Marsha, I do hope so, especially with the language barrier. Thank goodness for the translator on the PC!

  10. Poor boy, but Casey's comment (as usual) really made me laugh. She doesnt even try to be funny but i can't help laugh at almost every sentence she types.
I loved being away from my mum and dad as a child and would have gone to the end of the world and not missed them for a second.
My own kids dont even say goodbye to me when they have been on trips like this and when they return still show no signs of missing me.
I spend all my time missing them though and kiss their empty pillows each night they are away.
Doing that for some reason makes me feel better and able to stop worrying about them.

  11. Nikki if you'd have seen him tonight breaking his heart, you'd have cried. I just gave him a cuddle and a box of tissues and spoke to his Mum to make sure he was OK. He's out for the count now, so hopefully he will be OK tomorrow.
My kids love going away on trips and a bit like yours couldn't care less about poor Mum at home worrying if they are OK..

  14. The pattern of the flagstones is wonderful. Best wishes with the poor boy, Debbie. I think having contact with another French student is a good idea. I do wonder what he thinks of your miniatures and dollshouses.

  17. Wait till your exchange student gets settled in, he'll never want to leave....I know I wouldn't....with the ponies, and dogs, and cats......What kid wouldn't love all that. He lucked out staying with you and your family!

I love the floor! So, does this mean your going to start the Hat Shop soon??

  18. I hope your exchange student feels better after a good night's sleep. Sometimes that makes all the difference in a new place. I can't imagine how tired his mind must have been after all that traveling, at such a young age, and being somewhere completely different where everything is different.

I think he is terribly lucky though. Your family seems so wonderful and welcoming. And animals tend to get through to people despite language barriers. He should feel comfortable in no time.

The floor pattern looks delightful. Cannot wait to see how you put it together.

  20. I'm sure it is over whelming for the wee lad. I would imagine by the time he leaves there will be a part of him wishing he could stay a bit longer, or return some day in the future. I'm looking forward to seeing this floor when you've completed it. I really like this pattern.
